Stop Bitching, Sit in the Middle of K Street!

So I was downtown just getting out of my level III yoga class at Results...
I heard the thunderous noise of voices in unison chanting together, as I unlocked my bike from the parking meter.

I decided since I had nothing else to do after Yoga except meet up with my Free Trade homies at Busboys and Poets around 3PM I would go check out what all commotion was. It was like getting extra Soy in my tall latte or something. There were so many people just like me there. I mean I thought I was unique and I know I still am... but they all shared my same feeling on the war in Iraq.

My black rimmed glasses began to fog so I wiped them on my flannel shirt and as I put them back on this girl with a sign that said 'Babies are killed by US bullets in Iraq' came up to me and asked me my name. She said, "What's up brother?, what's your name?" and I said my name was Felix. She said, "Coolness man, I'm Evina, Isn't this such a glorious afternoon?" I agreed and she asked me to hold her sign while she took out her Poloroid camera and snapped a shot of me standing behind the mass of Salvation Army clothing sitting in the road behind me.

I noticed after she took the picture she looked at the sky and and began to dance and enjoy the rain falling on her face and through her dread locked hair. I was in heaven! She was even wearing the Chuck Taylor's I wanted to get at Urban Outfitters yesterday :). After we chatted for a bit and she introduced me to all of her friends the group of protesters decided to move on. "I love you all and you have been amazing, lets keep this historic gathering together and dance our way to another location!" exclaimed an equally hip chick on the loud speaker. As I heard M.I.A.'s 'Worldtown' blast out of the speakers we held hands and danced in the rain towards DuPont Circle. I was so excited to be apart of something so big, so important, and so socially correct! I was there man, in the moment, a re-born flower child from the 60's, doing my part to end such a horrid and never ending war.

I say Fuck Bush, Fuck the War!

Anyways we all went our seperate ways and Evina came back to my house with me so we could see if we made it on any of the news stations... Surprisingly we didn't... only a story about Britney Spears adopting a family of Sea Monkey's to learn how to take care of something... Evina and I exchanged myspace page URLs and she went back to her Co-op in Columbia Heights, I would have driven her but my bike only fits 1 person...

Anyways I decided to kick back the rest of the night, listen to some Against Me and take in everything that happened to me after Yoga class. I love living in DC its soooo cool you never know on any given day what you might run into to... O well I have to read the rest of this Chomsky book and then update my myspace! Catch you on the flip side! Felix.

O white people, when will be considered cool!

This site continues to impress me! http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.wordpress.com/

#80 The Idea of Soccer
March 3, 2008 by clander

Many white people will tell you that they are very into soccer. But be careful, it’s a trap.

If you then attempt to engage them about your favorite soccer team or talk about famous moments in soccer history, you are likely to be met with blank stares. This is because white people don’t actually enjoy watching soccer, they just like telling their friends that they are into it.

In fact, the main reason white people like soccer is so they can buy a new scarf. As you may or may not know, many soccer teams issue special scarves, and white people cannot get enough of them!

Most white people choose a favorite soccer team based on either a study abroad experience or a particularly long vacation to Europe or South America. When they return, they like to tell their friends about how great “football” is and that they are committed to ‘getting more into’ now that they have returned home.

Some white people take this charade so far as to actually play in adult soccer leagues or attend a local professional match.

The best method for exploiting this is to ask a white person who their favorite football team is and how they came to be fans. This will allow them to tell you about their time abroad and feel as though they have impressed you with their knowledge. Once they have finished talking, it is acceptable to ask for favors.

Note: Europeans are actually into Soccer and are exempt from this entry, however they are free to use it to their advantage when in North America.

Radiohead will be playing at the Nissan Pavilion on 5-11-2008.

Orbitz Maui Mint Melon Gum & AK-47's

So I found this sweet video done by Kanye, Pharrell, and Lupe Fiasco... they are co-labing making a group titled CRS (Child Rebel Soldier) basically taking the beat from Thom Yorke's 'the Eraser' and adding thier vocals... this video is sweet with kids that look like all three even a mini Thom Yorke is in it!

Here is a snippet of the current playlist I got spinning in my head:

'I am the Walrus' - The Beatles
'Take On Me' - Ah Ha
'Umbrella (acoustic cover)' - Marie Digby
'Ooh La La' - Goldfrapp
'(I Want Those) Flashing Lights' - Colin Munroe
'Us Placers' - CRS aka Kanye, Lupe, Pharrell, and Thom

How do I type a smiley face that means, "I'll cut you."

Ok so Robyn from the 8th floor told me about this website this morning.

It has consumed my morning. The address is www.overheardintheoffice.com

Here are some of the best I read:

VP, using Instant Messenger:
How do I type a smiley face that means, "I'll cut you."

Employee #1: How's your burger?
Asian manager, with messy burger: Good, but it's hard to eat...
Employee #2: It would be harder to eat with chopsticks!

VP: I just completed sexual harassment training! Who's gonna be my first victim?
Assistant: Me!

Customer squinting at 'No cell phones' sign:
Why do we have to turn off our cell phones? What happens if you use them in the tanning bed?
Tanning consultant: You'll die.

Programmer: Okay, so he asked us for a digital signature solution to document tracking and approval... Ideas?
Analyst: What if we got a couple midgets, and bought a few Etch A Sketches...?

Bimbette news assistant: I'm going to go to Target tonight and find something real Jewish and bring it in... Oooh, maybe I could find a piñata -- a Jewish piñata... With a menorah for a tail.

20-ish peon #1: I have to go and see my sister and her new baby.
20-ish peon #2: You'll come back smelling like babies. I love that smell.
20-ish peon #3: They smell like uterus.

Office girl: Hey! I haven't seen you in a while, how've you been?
Office guy: Oh, I guess you haven't heard. Half my ear was bit off [turns to show bandaged ear].
Office girl: Oh my god, that's awful! Human or animal?
Office guy: Human.

Happy Friday!

Goals not Goooooaaaaalllss

As of today I have made some life goals.

Not too man but a few I think I can achieve in the next few years or beyond...

Here is a mix of goals for this next year or well maybe a lot of years to come:

1. Write a book/script
2. Climb a mountain (any)
3. Live in South Africa during 2010, if not at least go to the World Cup in 2010
4. Create my own music or remix a song.
5. Vote for Obama in 2008!
6. See more museums in DC, they are free and I have only seen half of them
7. Go to the gym more often and play soccer on a team regularly
8. Move to a new city or overseas: London, LA, NYC, Denver, Paris, anywhere but DC in a few years.
9. Volunteer for an organization, whether political or social, try and give something back to the community.
10. Pay my taxes! oh and pay my car off too..
11. Get a job where I can have a normal life.. and be happy in what I do on a regular basis.

I know this is really lame but hey if you don't write out goals and such your never gonna see where you are and how much you have accomplished or how far you have to go to accomplish our goals!

Back to the Daily Grind

Well, it's back to work in good ole DC for me right now.

I would have to say it's a bit sad to be back working but in reality I need the money really, really bad. The UK trip was a big drain on the bank account. It was worth it though!

I really wanna see Juno! So if anyone reads this and wants to see Juno sometime this week let me know!

Also I cannot get the Appleseed Cast's song "Fight Song" out of my head. It was used in the preview for some new HBO show about a shrink and his patients. It actually didn't look too bad.

I just had to add minutes to my bosses cell phone which was great I haven't gotten to "top-up" a phone since I left London. Ah the simple pleasures in life.

The First Post

I decided to write this because people keep saying that if I wrote a blog about music and movies and such people would read it. Well here it is. Too bad your gonna have to deal with random rants and other thoughts I have as well and not just entertainment things.

First I just got back from a trip to the UK. Got to see Tottenham v. Fulham (5-1 Tot win), West Ham v. Manchester United (2-1 West Ham win), and Queens Park Rangers v. Leicester City (3-1 QPR win). Was originally supposed to see Celtic v. Rangers in Glasgow, Scotland but the match was postponed due to the death of a former player.

So the trip instead of going London - Dublin - Glasgow - Amsterdam instead went London - Dublin - London.

I didn't mind too much. I love London and I would love to live there someday. The UK is much better than the United States. I am becoming quite bored with my life here in the States. It seems to be the same thing day in and day out. And the same thing on the weekends as well. I think I need to start exploring different things and start cracking down on my writing and actually get some work done on writing my book and planning my future. Cause if I don't start planning now I might be stuck in a massive hole in the next few years and get trapped in the current state of life I am in right now.

Alright as for music: check out the new Kano CD called London Town. The key tracks on the album are London Town and This is the Girl, both tracks are clutch. Kano is a british rapper/R&B artist. He is just becoming popular in the UK and I expect him to break out in the states either this summer or late next year. Another good album out right now is the Mitchell Brothers CD called Dressed for the Occasion. The key tracks on this album are Sole Mate, Michael Jackson, and Shots Echo. These guys are a bit more popular in the UK. And have gotten some play in the States for thier first single Alone with the TV which is one of my favorite songs of all time!  Also other artists to keep an eye out for the Cool Kids, Rye Rye, DJ Doc Rok, and Leo the Lion.

For movies, I haven't gotten to see much recently I really enjoyed Eastern Promises. I thought that movie was great and had a good story line. the plot was a little weak and it ended too fast. I have in my que to watch 3:10 to Yuma, We Own the Night, and Before the Devils Knows Your Dead. Hopefully I will enjoy some of these Oscar front runners. Will let everyone know in the next few days.

Will also try and post a bit more about the UK trip and some of the good stories from that trip as well. But some need editing hahaah.

Peace for now LG
